Cycling brings UMP associates together

 

Pekan, 16 September 2020 - A total of 100 staff and students of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) joined the cycling programme ‘Kayuhan Santai UMP’ for 28 km in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration at UMP Pekan to strengthen the relationship and spread the love for the country.
 
The flag-off gimmick was officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli. 

Also present were the Director of the Centre for Sports and Culture (PSK) cum the Chairman of Kayuhan Santai UMP, Professor Dato’ Mejar (K) Ts. Dr. Rosli Abu Bakar.
 
In his speech, Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi urged UMP associates to maintain physical and mental health and a healthy body 

“Besides that, spend time for exercises and hectic working schedule is not an excuse for recreational activities. 
 
“Such a programme not only fosters the spirit of revitalising the Malaysia Day celebration but also increases the spirit of sportsmanship among the staff as well as fosters the teamworking spirit. 

“It is hoped that this programme can be held annually,” he said.
 
Meanwhile, Profesor Dato’ Mejar (K) Dr. Rosli said that he was grateful for the overwhelming response from the UMP associates who participated and made this event a success.
 
“On behalf of the organiser, we would like to thank everyone involved, especially the policemen and marshals for their cooperation to realise this programme.
 
“Kayuhan Santai UMP brings the concept of leisure cycling while bearing the Jalur Gemilang and it provides an opportunity for cycling enthusiasts to participate and foster teamworking spirit among the staff,” he said. 
 
The programme, led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, started from UMP Pekan Multipurpose Hall at about 8.00 am. 

Among the routes involved were Jalan Tanjung Selangor, Tanah Putih, Taman Peramu Jaya and Taman Perdana.
 
Meanwhile, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie said, the tagline ‘Moving Together’ created a strong spirit among the participants that came from various backgrounds. 

“Some of them are professional cyclists, and some are new in this sport.

“Therefore, we can see the participants move together and make sure that no one is left behind,” he said.

He also hoped this spirit stay alive for the development of UMP.
