63 staff joined Kembara Lestari Merdeka to explore the beauty of nature

 

Pekan, 21 August 2020 - A total of 63 staff from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) walked three kilometres while waving the stripes of glory (jalur gemilang) as a way to express their love for the country in succeeding the Kembara Lestari Merdeka program organized by Registry recently.

The program started from the Tun Abdul Razak Chancellery at UMP Pekan and the participants moved towards Rimba Lestari, Nadir and ended at Dusun UMP.

The program was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of UMP, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff.

Also present were UMP Pro-Registrar cum UMP Independence Month Celebration Program Director, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rosli Hainin, Chief Librarian, Azman Abdul Rahim, Senior Dean of the College of Management and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr. Hasan Ahmad, Dean of the Centre for Humanities, Dr. Mohamad Hilmi Mat Said, and Director of the Centre for Property Management and Development, Dr. Mohamad Idris Ali.

Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar also appreciated the commitment of the participants in making this program a success, at the same time exploring the beauty of the green campus, and fulfilling it as one of the recreational activities and healthy lifestyle practices.

Exactly at 9.00 am, the participants started the adventure activity while waving the stripes of glory led by the Head of Green Campus and Sustainability Unit, Ts. Nurulakla Mohd Azlan.

According to Ts. Nurulakla, participants can explore the beauty of the campus and have the opportunity to get information on the species of tropical trees found on campus as well as rare species.

“The 26.82-acre Rimba Lestari (Sustainable Forest) has 800 forest trees and 1,800 Acacia trees.

“Among the tropical trees found in Rimba Lestari are Tongkat Ali (longjack), Meranti Tembaga, Ketapang, Merbau, Cengal, Beruas, Ketapang, Jelutung and others.

“UMP also has a 2.2-acre orchard that has 100 fruit trees such as mango, durian, rambutan, durian, pomelo, and others.

"Some of these fruit trees flower buds while some have already produced fruit," he said.

At the same time, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar also planted the Longan tree as a symbol of the end of the Kembara Lestari Merdeka program in Dusun UMP.

During this month of independence, various programs have been arranged such as Merdeka Short Video competition, Merdeka Infographic Competition, and Merdeka Aspirations from August 15, 2020, until September 16, 2020.

This competition is not only opened to UMP staff but also anyone interested.

There was also a Blood Donation Program, National Day Exhibition, and a Let's Ask the Specialist Program in conjunction with Independence Day titled 'Merdekakah Kita' with Dr. Mat Rofa Ismail, who is the researcher in Malay and Islamic History through the UMP Islamic Centre live FB.
