UMP helps new students check in to campus

BATU PAHAT, 12 October 2022 - A new student of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Putera Amirul Hakim Mohd Ali from Batu Pahat, Johor did not expect to be selected as a recipient of Yayasan UMP Education Incentive of RM1,000 to ease his burden at the beginning of his study session at the university.

In fact, his arrival at the university with his family was also managed by the university.

The graduate from Negeri Sembilan Matriculation College selected UMP as the first choice and was offered to study in his field of interest at the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology (FTKEE) at UMP Pekan.

He said that this donation and assistance meant a lot to ease the burden on the family since his father, Mohd Ali Abdul Rahim, only works part-time around the village without a fixed income.

Meanwhile his mother, Maharani Muhamad, works at a small stall in front of the house assisted by his father, along with his younger sister who is studying in Form 5 and a younger brother who is currently in Form 3.

He said he was grateful to be chosen to enter UMP and stated that the assistance given by UMP proves the university’s concern towards students by prioritising aspects of student welfare.

“I feel very happy and moved by the help given by UMP because they not only provided transportation for my family to come to UMP but also awarded the UMP Education Incentive to me, which can be used for registration purposes,” he said.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed said, the university is always concerned with the difficulties of students, especially those from the B40 family, in registering for the university.

Several students also faced transportation problems such that they needed to rent or borrow vehicles.

“Yayasan UMP will help students with needs and the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (JHEPA) always cares about students’ problems,” he said.

A total of 300 new students benefited from Yayasan UMP Education Incentive and Excellence Incentive contributions.

In addition, UMP Volunteers and officers from Yayasan UMP and JHEPA also helped manage student transportation around Machang, Kota Bahru, Tasik Gelugor and Muadzam Shah to register for the university.

A total of 1,459 new students have enrolled for this intake session.

Of these, 990 students attend UMP Gambang Campus while 449 attend UMP Pekan.
