WETLAND

Wetland
UMP Pekan Campus is surrounded by 4 man-made lakes (Figure 2) with a total area of 15.10 hectares (37.2 acres). The lakes were designed to serve as mitigation measure in the event of flooding, especially during the monsoon season (December to March). They also function as a water recreation area for students, staff and the local community. In this initiative one of the lake was redesigned to serve as a natural wetland. Five groups of wetland plants (submerge, floating leaves, floating plants, marginal/emergent plants and forest species) were planted in this lake. The objective of this initiative is to create a wildlife sanctuary, to improve water quality, to provide recreational activities as well as to promote edu-tourism in UMP Pekan Campus.
